After an opening reception on March 14, artwork by Grade 5 students from Woodstock Elementary School is now on display at the YES (Youth Exhibition Space) Gallery at the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum (WAAM). The exhibit runs through April 26.

Under the guidance of Art teacher Danielle Payette, the young artists explored landscapes through the concept of the number three, discovering its many creative possibilities. The project was inspired by WAAM artist Alan Samalin, who is known for creating abstract triptych works. Students began by drawing landscapes using only three types of lines: a curved line, a straight line, and a continuous contour line. After creating several sketches, each student selected three landscapes and used three different mediums to transform them into a triptych—a work of art made up of three panels that are displayed together as a single piece.

Through the process, students experimented with line, composition, and materials, ultimately discovering that when it comes to creativity, three really can be the magic number.
